What are Digital Rights Management (DRM) errors?
Digital Rights Management, or DRM, refers to the license that you'll need to view a title. If there's a problem with DRM you may get a three- or four-digit error, often accompanied by a message saying the title can't be played or streamed.
If you received these or other errors suggesting you log out and log in again, please note this is not the same as restarting your device:
- To log out from Redbox Instant by Verizon on the web, choose the Sign Out link at the upper right of any Redbox Instant by Verizon page.
- In the Redbox Instant by Verizon Android, Apple and Google TV apps, choose Account and then choose Sign Out or Logout.
- If you're on a Samsung or LG Smart TV, Blu-ray Disc player or Home Theater system, choose the Account icon, and navigate to My Service.
- Next, no matter which device you're using, sign back in using your Redbox Instant by Verizon account credentials.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, and you're getting error 5154 on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, please try playing the movie over a wi-fi connection. You also can uninstall and reinstall the Redbox Instant by Verizon app; to uninstall just hold your finger on the app's icon until it starts to wiggle and then tap the small "x" that will appear in the top right corner. After removing the app, shut down and restart your device and then reinstall the app from the app store.
DRM errors also could be encountered if you try viewing an inactive Video on Demand (VOD) rental. You have 30 days to start watching a VOD, and once you've started watching you have 48 hours to finish before the VOD's status changes to inactive. To check the status of your VOD rentals, log on to your Redbox Instant by Verizon account by choosing Account from the top of any Redbox Instant by Verizon web page, and then select the Transaction History tab.
Most of the time DRM is downloaded at the same time as the title and there are no issues. In rare instances, your DRM may be out of date or need to communicate with Redbox Instant by Verizon. Connecting your device to the Internet regularly will keep your DRM licenses up to date.
